AI Data Centers, 4K Generation, GPT Scheduling

Key Points

  • The Biden administration’s executive order aims to build gigawatt‑scale AI data centers on federal land using clean energy and U.S.‑made chips, but the U.S. currently lacks domestic production of cutting‑edge GPU architectures (3 nm and below) needed for such facilities.
  • Nvidia’s new AI tool, SAA (Sana), can generate high‑quality 4K images locally on a user’s machine at speeds that surpass cloud‑based services like MidJourney, eliminating the need for an internet connection.
  • OpenAI introduced “scheduled tasks” for the GPT‑4 model, allowing users to automate routine workflows (e.g., timed reminders and pre‑filled inputs) as an early step toward fully autonomous AI agents.
  • Google’s recent “Titans” research paper proposes larger context windows and longer‑term memory by moving beyond traditional Transformer architecture, raising questions about whether Google is already deploying this technology at scale and how it might improve contextual relevance.

0:00four pieces of news for today January 0:0314th number one the Biden Administration 0:07executive order the US government is 0:09pushing to build gigawatt scale AI data 0:12centers on Federal Land so these 0:15projects would supposedly use clean 0:18energy and americanmade semiconductors 0:20that is the Hope expressed in the 0:22executive order I think the fundamental 0:25challenge there is that the 0:28architectures used for cutting Edge 0:30graphical processing units that are in 0:32AI data centers have never been built in 0:35the United States to date even the new 0:38production push in Arizona for the 4 0:41nanometer architecture is not considered 0:43Cutting Edge 3 nanometer is considered 0:45Cutting Edge and two nanometers coming 0:47next and 0:49so this is one of the tensions in the 0:51executive order I see the idea of 0:53enabling gigawatt scale data centers on 0:55Federal Land I am not sure how it 0:58actually plays out in practice 0:59especially with a new Administration 1:01coming in so we we are going to have to 1:03see number two Nvidia SAA Sana it's a 1:08new AI tool that generates 4K images 1:11locally on your machine you don't need 1:14uh a cloud install of anything to 1:16generate the images they're 4K they're 1:18very nice quality and the key thing is 1:20they're extremely fast I'm still playing 1:23with it but it is shocking how fast it's 1:26able to generate professional grade 1:27visuals like it's much faster than mid 1:31Journey number three chat GPT uh and 1:35open AI have launched tasks and 1:37scheduled tasks specifically for the 40 1:40model of chat GPT it lets you automate 1:43particular workflows you do regularly 1:45the one that I like to think of is I 1:47send a marketing email every Wednesday 1:49while now I can have chat GPT one remind 1:51me to send it by starting a chat and two 1:54encode in the chat the usual inputs I 1:56need to send it so I can accelerate my 1:58way through it's a baby step in the 2:00direction of Agents from 2:02openai finally a research paper from 2:06Google Titans the question there is can 2:11Google actually implement this at scale 2:14I released a separate video on this 2:16earlier this morning you can go check it 2:18out I don't want to repeat what I said 2:20there I think the question I have as I 2:21continue to read this is whether or not 2:26Google is already employing this to try 2:29and break the limits of the context 2:32window Google has been on the bigger 2:35side for context windows and on the 2:37weaker side 2:39for quality of llm response for a while 2:43now that's anecdotal but I've heard it 2:45from a lot of people and I think it's 2:48really interesting that the paper that 2:50they released is about larger context 2:54Windows longer memory and implies moving 2:58away from Transformer architecture Ure 3:00which tightens up the relationship 3:02between tokens and would theoretically 3:04lead to more contextual relevant 3:07responses if they were already 3:09implementing a version of Titans and 3:10just hadn't talked about it till they 3:12released the paper it wouldn't surprise 3:15me a ton now I will say I don't know 3:18that I'm not at Google it is possible 3:21this really is novel and hasn't been 3:22implemented into any production system 3:24yet uh they are certainly claiming 3:27excellent retrieval from Titans but that 3:30is different from excellent contextual 3:32responses in reasoning across an 3:34extremely large body so if it was a 20 3:37million token 3:39window would you actually be able to 3:41reason across all of that using Titans I 3:43don't know and so that's the question I 3:46have as I look at the Titans paper I'm 3:48still digesting it curious for your 3:50thoughts uh but that's the news for 3:51today
