0:00I have been working on this maze for hours 0:02and no matter what I do, I end up getting stuck somewhere. 0:06Hey, Jeff. 0:07Hey, Graeme. 0:08You know, I was just working on this exact same maze. Really? 0:12Yeah. You having trouble with it? 0:14Yes, in fact, I am. 0:15Okay, well, I figured out something. 0:17Do you want to know the answer? Oh, please? Okay. 0:19Do you see this wall right here? Yeah. 0:22All right. That's actually a false wall. 0:24If you open that up. You're out. 0:26Oh. Come on. You mean all I had to do was this? 0:28That's all you had to do. 0:30Oh, man. Well, so this is why you want to work with other people. 0:33Somebody else will spot something they've learned something that you haven't learned. 0:37And then together, you can do something even far more powerful. 0:40I love that. I love the idea of being together. Right. 0:42The power of community. 0:44Share the knowledge. 0:45Let's dig in on the power of community. 0:48Because as you start to build a community and you get a chance 0:50to team and collaborate with others, 0:53it can make differences in ways you just wouldn't believe. 0:55And one of the first ways we do that is through learning, you know? 1:00An employer once said, what if I train my people and they leave? 1:04And the comeback was. 1:06Well, what if we don't train them and they stay? 1:09And I think that really says a lot, 1:12because you've got to get those skills, you've got to get those credentials. 1:15You've got to get out there and learn something new. Right, Jeff? 1:18Yeah. It'd be a lot worse if they stayed because they're not trained. 1:22So we want them to stay because they have been trained. 1:24We want them to learn. 1:25And that learning leads to information. 1:29That information, I'll tell you, I believe, 1:31is the most valuable commodity anyone can have. 1:33It's more valuable than time, more valuable than money 1:37Because with information, if you apply it 1:40well, you effectively give yourself more time 1:42by being more efficient. You can provide value 1:45to the organization and value to yourself, 1:47which can translate into more money. 1:49So learning and then applying that information is very profitable. 1:53Yeah. And once you get this done 1:55now you get a chance to start to network and really build out that network. 2:00And this makes such a big difference 2:02because this is where you find your people, which is fantastic. 2:06But you also get a chance to share what you've learned 2:09and think about a few minutes ago, when you had that maze 2:12and you couldn't solve it, I came in with a skill 2:15you didn't have, and I helped you solve it, 2:17and we started building our own little community about how to solve that challenge. 2:20That is the power of networking. 2:22Absolutely. I was stuck, and you provided some inspiration. 2:26I was able to take that inspiration to solve the rest of the problem. Well, 2:30lots of times that is exactly 2:32what happens for me when I go to a conference, 2:34when I listen to someone else talk, when I go to a forum 2:37and I exchange ideas with other people. They give me ideas, 2:41and now, I can compound that and do yet even more. 2:44Yeah. And that giveback is where is 2:47is is just where the magic happens, right? 2:49That's the stuff I love to see. 2:52It makes me think of a quote. Right. 2:54Which is people say I'm not an expert, 2:56but if you solve something five minutes ago, 2:59you're the expert to that person five minutes behind you. 3:03Like the maze. 3:04That's a lot of fun. Yeah. It is. 3:06And in fact, if you know that sort of thing, 3:09then you could pass that along to others. 3:11And an example of that would be through mentoring. 3:14You could give people ideas in terms of their career, 3:17in terms of technical skills, things like that. 3:19Tell them the bridge is out ahead. Don't go that way. 3:22But here's a shortcut. Go this way. 3:24And then you get to benefit from from giving to them. 3:27And they benefit by receiving this. 3:30In fact, none of us gets there on our own. 3:32Isaac Newton, who was the guy that was behind all of our modern physics, said, 3:36"If I have seen further, it's 3:39by standing on the shoulders of giants." 3:42You you want to get on and go for a ride? 3:44Absolutely I. Do. 3:45That would be fun. 3:46Well, that would be fun. 3:48And fun is really important. 3:50The power of play can never be underestimated. 3:53I want you to think of. 3:55You know it. Another quote. "We 3:57don't stop playing because we get old. 3:59We get old because we stop playing." 4:02And when you have a chance to have fun with your coworkers, 4:04your colleagues, your peers, your friends, 4:06that is where that bonding really starts to happen. 4:08So whether it's through a challenge and solving something together, or games or sports 4:13or even just taking a little time to throw around some trivia, 4:17that opportunity can can really help to 4:19build out that community for you. 4:21Let's take a look at what one of these communities looks like. 4:24So for example, we've got IBM's TechXchange. 4:27Now this is a global technical community 4:30that consists of many different parts. 4:33And this is where you start to unlock that value. 4:36So, for example, in TechXchange, 4:38there's over 150 forums. 4:41And in these forums is where you can collaborate with others, 4:44but also get a lot of those technical answers, 4:47those challenges, those problems you have solved. 4:50There's over 400 courses. 4:52We talked a little bit about learning, upskilling, 4:54gaining the credentials you need to really improve your skills at work. 4:59That's where that happens. 5:00There's over 150 certifications. 5:03You want that badge. 5:04You want the ability to share with your network. Hey, 5:06I've got these skills. 5:08That's the way to prove it. 5:10There's over a thousand events, including a large global conference. 5:14That's gonna happen, and you're gonna want to be a part of that. 5:17That's where you go to find your people and really build that network. 5:21And then the network, right? Over 400,000 global members. 5:27That is a community. 5:29Yeah. And that makes me think, Graeme about Metcalfe's Law, 5:33which basically is states that the value of a network 5:37is proportional to the square of the number of connected users. 5:40So in other words, yeah, you've got v equals 5:43u squared, the value of a network. 5:44If you start with a network with 5 users 5:47then its value, its utility is we'll call it 25 okay. 5:52But if you have 10 users 5:54that's gonna be 100. 5:57Now imagine if we take TechXchange, 5:59which is 400,000 users, and connect all of those, 6:03what do you end up with? 6:04You end up with 160 billion with a B. 6:07So this is huge. 6:09Wow. That's a pretty cool community. 6:13Alright. 6:14Now, of those more than 1000 events we talked about, there's the big one 6:18IBM TechXchange 2025. 6:20This is our annual global conference 6:23coming to Orlando this year from October 6th to the 9th. 6:26And let me tell you, you have to see it to believe it. 6:29There will be thousands of developers, 6:31technologists, business practitioners, partners, students. 6:35Lots of people in attendance. 6:37This is where the experts go. 6:38So if you use IBM products and solutions, this is the conference for you. 6:42With over a thousand sessions, there's lots of different ways 6:46to learn through things like lectures, 6:48where you are learning direct from the experts, hands-on 6:51and self-guided labs, 6:53where you get a chance to really build those skills. 6:56There's tech talks. 6:58These are shorter, a little bit punchier sessions, 7:00but there are still a ton of fun and really, really fascinating. Workshops, 7:04where you can really sit down and work with the experts 7:07to accomplish something or solve a technical challenge. 7:10And there's demos. 7:11You will see the latest and greatest in live demos. 7:16And finally, there's the sandbox. 7:18This is a massive technical playground 7:22that is full of three things: 7:24community, learning and fun. 7:26And actually, Jeff, I don't want to say any more about it 7:29because you got to go. You have to see it. 7:31You got to experience this, right. 7:33And what are we gonna be talking about in these sessions. Well, 7:35some example topics. 7:36And this is not all of them, but just to give you a taste, 7:39we're going to talk about AI, artificial intelligence. 7:42Everybody's talking about that these days. 7:44How about application development? 7:46How about cloud? 7:47How about the mainframe? 7:49Quantum computing, a really hot topic these days. 7:52Data storage. 7:54And my personal favorite, cybersecurity. 7:57After all, I'm a cybersecurity guy. 7:59And that's just a piece of the big pie that we're going to have there. 8:03And to do that, we have to have over 1000 8:06very qualified technical speakers 8:09who are ready to talk about these kinds of subjects, 8:12and I think we know one of them. 8:14He's standing right here. 8:16You, Jeff. 8:17You're one of them. 8:18Yeah. And, Jeff, what is something you're going to be doing there? 8:21I can't wait to talk to people about the secrets of the light board, 8:25how we do these kinds of things. 8:26If you wanted to know, how did I learn to write backwards? 8:30Come to the conference and you'll see. That's right. 8:32We will have a light board studio where we will be doing 8:35live recordings, taking Q&A. 8:37And also, you're going to get a chance to learn 8:40and to actually play with a light board yourself, 8:43and maybe even make a video that you get to share. 8:46Really cool. That'll be fun. 8:48There's an old proverb that says, "If 8:50you want to go fast, go alone. 8:53If you want to go far, go together." 8:55Join a technical community, and we can go far, together. 8:59Your mission is go join us.
