Evolving Chatbots: Neural Seek with Watson X

Key Points

  • AI has progressed from early rule‑based chatbots that could only follow predefined scripts to modern large language models (LLMs) that use deep learning, massive data, and NLP to generate human‑like responses.
  • Watson X Assistant is a conversational AI platform that leverages generative AI to deliver more intelligent, context‑aware interactions.
  • The demo shows how to connect Watson X Discovery (where source documents like robotic‑vacuum manuals are stored) with the Neural Seek extension to improve answer quality for user queries.
  • By configuring Neural Seek, the system automatically generates relevant questions, fine‑tunes responses, and integrates with Watson X Assistant via a custom OpenAPI file and API key.
  • Following the outlined setup steps—creating a Discovery instance, enabling Neural Seek, importing the OpenAPI spec, and adding the extension tile—enables a customized, searchable, AI‑powered chatbot experience.

0:00the age of AI is here from Deep learning 0:03to llms to generative AI we live in a 0:06world where AI has the power to 0:08transform just about everything whether 0:10it's handling customer support or 0:12generating code 0:13AI wasn't always so pervasive though the 0:16first AI tools had significant 0:18limitations they couldn't understand 0:20context or learn and improve on their 0:22own 0:23the first chat Bots for example were 0:25rule-based meaning they were developed 0:27based on predefined rules or Scripts 0:30this severely restricted their capacity 0:32to just what was fed into them the same 0:35way any Computing software can only 0:37perform the tasks that it was programmed 0:39to perform 0:41ai-based chat Bots have come a long way 0:43since then they're leveraging 0:45advancements in machine learning and 0:46deep learning capabilities to improve 0:48the understanding of natural language 0:51now with the adoption of llms we're 0:53seeing a new Evolution 0:55large language models use massive 0:57amounts of data and a combination of 0:59deep learning algorithms neural networks 1:02and natural language processing 1:03techniques to generate human-like 1:05responses to queries let's show what 1:08we're talking about with Watson X 1:09assistant a conversational AI platform 1:12designed to build and deploy ai-powered 1:14chatbot with the emergence of generative 1:17AI what's an ex-assistant is working to 1:20transform user experiences and deliver 1:22more intelligent human-like responses 1:25today we'll show you how to leverage 1:26neural seek which is a search in natural 1:28language generation system that will 1:30integrate with Watson X assistant first 1:33we need to set up Watson X discovery 1:35which is where our data will be stored 1:37let's use robotic vacuum manuals as our 1:39example and go into improve and 1:41customize to test it 1:43let's ask how do I change the filter 1:46the answer we get isn't great so let's 1:49try asking it another question 1:51how often should I change the mopping 1:53pad 1:53this time it doesn't answer the question 1:55we were asking at all 1:58to improve our answers let's set up 2:00neural seek to work with Discovery and 2:02assistant 2:03now let's go into the initial setup page 2:05to further fine-tune our extension 2:08we've already pre-filled the initial 2:09information here like what we're talking 2:11about and we've also connected with 2:13Watson discovery 2:15then in the about section it came up 2:18with this paragraph on its own 2:20in tune we're basically seeing how it 2:22should look as well as whether we should 2:24be looking at newer or older documents 2:27and now in Q a this actually looks at 2:30all of our documents and generates some 2:31questions for us to bootstrap our 2:33actions in Watson X assistant 2:36so it's saying that based on this data 2:38we think people are going to be asking 2:40these questions 2:42now click on the integrate tab 2:44from here make note of your API key and 2:46download your custom open API file 2:50now open the Integrations page in Watson 2:52X assistant and click build custom 2:54extension 2:55follow the steps to import your open API 2:58file and click finish 3:00now scroll down and click add on your 3:02neural seek tile to add the extension 3:05follow the steps to set up the 3:06authentication for neural seek 3:09for the authentication type be sure to 3:11set it to API key auth and paste your 3:13neural seek API key from earlier in the 3:15indicated field 3:17click through to finish 3:20now that we've set up our neural seek 3:22extension let's go ahead and add it to 3:24our dialog 3:25first create a new action skill 3:28next we're going to create an action and 3:31quick start with a template before 3:33adding our neural seek starter kit which 3:36we just generated 3:37here you can see we have our neural seek 3:40search action we need to configure it 3:43so you can see that it's generated all 3:44this information for us we need to edit 3:47our extension select the extension we 3:49just created and for the operation we 3:51would like to seek an answer from neural 3:53seek 3:54for parameters we'll set question equal 3:56to query underscore text 3:59click apply and then save the action 4:02now we want to go to no action matches 4:05which means that if we can't match any 4:07of the phrases to anything we've set up 4:09in Watson X assistant it's going to go 4:11out to neural seek and get that answer 4:13for us from Discovery 4:15let's remove the pre-filled text so this 4:18is basically like the anything else node 4:21now let's go to a sub action and go to 4:24neural seek search before hitting apply 4:27then save then preview 4:31let's ask what's an X assistant how do I 4:33change the filter 4:35it's going out to neural seek and here 4:37you can see the response that it's 4:38generated 4:39to change the filter open the filter 4:41door remove the filter by grasping the 4:44tab shake off debris re-insert the 4:46filter and close the filter door replace 4:49the filter every two months 4:51this is a really good and accurate 4:53response 4:54now let's ask our other question how 4:57often should I change the mopping pad 4:59it's going back to neural seek again and 5:02gives us the correct response 5:04as you can see our neural seek extension 5:06can help your chat Bots carry out 5:07conversations just as well as any human 5:09could and that's due to its generative 5:11AI capabilities 5:13to learn more about how you can leverage 5:15generative AI with Watson X assistant
