0:00what's up y'all my name is Ian and I'm 0:02back with another episode of IBM Tech 0:05now I'm going to dive into the latest 0:07and greatest IBM news and announcements 0:09including 25 years of Java on zos the 0:1315th consecutive time that IBM was named 0:15a leader in the Gartner magic quadrant 0:17for primary storage and five IBM 0:19products named to the truss radius best 0:21software list 0:22but first a bit of news from The Wider 0:25Tech world 0:26Swedish and danish researchers conducted 0:28a successful experiment last week that 0:30could make the internet faster and more 0:32energy efficient using a laser-powered 0:35Chip and A specialized light creating 0:37device the Scandinavians transmitted 0:401.84 petabytes of data in a single 0:43second setting a new world record 0:45how much is 1.84 petabytes you ask well 0:48it's roughly the equivalent of the 0:50entire internet about two times over 0:53moving that much data would typically 0:55require over a thousand lasers but 0:57according to the Washington Post the new 0:59chip works by using a single laser to 1:02create a rainbow of colors through a 1:03device called a frequency column these 1:06arrays of light carry data through fiber 1:08optic cables in a faster less energy 1:10consuming manner 1:12bringing greater Energy Efficiency to 1:14the web is a big deal because the 1:16internet accounts for roughly 10 percent 1:17of global electricity consumption the 1:20researchers said the new chip is years 1:22away from mainstream use but the 1:24development is extremely exciting 1:25nonetheless 1:26and now let's dive into what's going on 1:28at IBM 1:30so today's news is brought to you by the 1:32Numbers 25 15 and 5. 1:35to start 25 years ago IBM released its 1:39first SDK for Java on IBM Z systems 1:42Hardware 1:43and since then Java has been a key 1:45component of delivering Innovation 1:46performance and portability on IBM Z 1:49systems 1:50a quarter Century later Java remains one 1:53of the top development languages for 1:55modern Enterprise applications 1:57and the design principles and resulting 1:58benefits of an SDK for Java on Z systems 2:01remain consistent 2:03this versatile programming language has 2:05helped many world-class customers build 2:07highly robust scalable and reliable 2:10modern Enterprise applications with us 2:12for example a Truvia AG is using Java to 2:16accelerate the creation of new Services 2:18while extending the life and value of 2:20its core applications alongside COBOL 2:23within IMS on IBM Z systems 2:26we're also excited about the future of 2:28java development at IBM in 2021 We Begin 2:31the next phase of our Java journey by 2:33rebranding our IBM SDK to IBM submaru 2:36runtime certified Edition for zos 2:40to learn more about the 25 years of IBM 2:42and Java check out the link I've got in 2:44the description of this video 2:46next up for the 15th consecutive time 2:49IBM has achieved in industry-leading 2:51position in the 2022 Gartner magic 2:53quadrant for primary storage 2:56the Gartner mq provides a graphical 2:58competitive positioning of four types of 3:00Technology providers and IBM was named 3:03the leader the highest distinction based 3:05upon ability to execute and completeness 3:07of vision 3:09IBM has an unparalleled Legacy in data 3:11storage with inventions that include the 3:13floppy disk the hard disk drive magnetic 3:16stripe readers and more 3:18We Believe being recognized as a leader 3:19in the magic quadrant for primary 3:21storage validates the ongoing 3:23Innovations developed by our Global team 3:25of Engineers product managers and 3:27marketers 3:28it also highlights the strength of the 3:30IBM storage platform which incorporates 3:32countless proprietary Technologies 3:34developed by our scientists and 3:36researchers 3:37to learn more about IBM Storage 3:39Solutions and the Gartner mq hit the 3:41link below 3:42to wrap things up today we're excited to 3:44announce that five IBM offerings have 3:47made the first ever trust radius best 3:49software list to make the list products 3:51must have over 40 reviews from the past 3:53year and have maintained a TR score of 3:567.5 or higher 3:58IBM's products went a bit above and 4:00beyond by maintaining an overall average 4:01rating of 9.0 demonstrating their 4:04commitment to transparency Improvement 4:07and user insights 4:08the five products recognized by trust 4:10radius are IBM Watson assistant IBM 4:13process mining IBM power servers IBM 4:16power virtual servers and IBM flash 4:19system
